BENEFITS OF LIVING A GREEN LIFE

Most people believe that making a switch to living a green life involves having to give something up. However, that’s not the case. Living green lifestyle benefits you and your family in many ways. Making the change is quite easy, the lifestyle can be really fun, and ultimately, you will be happier and healthier as a result of your decision.

The beautiful thing about "green" is that it captures 2 of the most essential things which many people care about: their money, and their health. And there’s a beautiful 3rd reason to go green: The community will benefit in the long run because it’s better for the planet.

There are many benefits to living in an energy-efficient and green home.

What are the benefits of a green life?

There are 5 major benefits to living a green life, everything from a positive environmental impact to better returns on investment

Since we got our home recently, I feel I have a good experience on a more comprehensive list of benefits of green life and home. Here are our top five:

  1. A lower energy bill. Green implies better insulation, sealed windows and doors, tight ductwork, efficient cooling and heating, efficient lighting and other appliances. Over time, all of these together pay us back with lower gas and electricity bills.
  2. Lower water bill. Green implies low flow showerheads and faucets, dual flush toilet, efficient irrigation system, and management of the stormwater on site — all these lead to lower water bills.
  3. Healthy/quality life. Green building uses paints, adhesives, finishes and sealants that are low VOC. Hence, they do not off-gas or cause respiratory distress. It improves fresh air in your home along with air filters all working together, so we only breathe in clean air. It also incorporates non-toxic household cleaners, non-toxic pest control and mold prevention. The raw materials used in the manufacture of our home products are based on plant substances with a natural aroma, which makes them less harmful to human health and do not contain chemicals that create health hazards. All these lead to a healthier home and better indoor air quality — which saves money too.
  4. Upcycling. Reusing products instead of throwing them in the landfill.  Giving them a second life as something different.  For example, a room divider can be a headboard. Over time, we save money on maintenance and replacement costs.
  5. Increased value of your home. Studies show that the value of a building increases by 3-5% when it’s green. Hence, this can make a huge difference in today's market.

Green products go beyond offering eco content. Their packaging is also designed to reduce the environmental impact and avoid the use of materials such as plastic, replacing it with recyclable materials that can be reused.

Typically, your home and life are your greatest assets, so investing wisely in them makes a lot of sense. In my opinion, green investments, are about the best you can make.
